Yami Kawaii - Sick Cute - What Is It and Does It Glamorize Suicide?

Hello Sparks!

We're back to making short video edits! These will be quick summary videos in case you don't have time to watch a whole episode but want to learn more on a topic! Check out the first video below, and if you have more time, then check out the whole episode.

We discussed many aspects of suicide glamorization on July 24th: from "13 Reasons Why" to general media representation and coverage of celebrity suicides. But the thing we wanted to discuss the most was Yami Kawaii - the Japanese counter-culture roughly translating to Death Cute.  I think the discussion was fascinating. Enjoy, let me know what you thought below, and don't forget to #bethelight

More than 100000 sites about suicide now appear on the world wide web. Many of these seem to condone suicide and forbid entry to anyone offering to dissuade users from taking their own lives, said the report’s author, Dr Susan Thompson, senior house officer in child psychiatry at the Ealing, Hammersmith, and Fulham NHS Trust.

Perfectionism: What Is It and Who Suffers From It?

Perfectionism isn't fun, but we live in a society where it's seen as lazy and inattentive when mistakes are made. This conversation, like so many, was eye-opening as to how many people constantly worry about this matter. How this affects our daily mental health.

Insomnia - What It Is And What Can Help - Twitch Ep 51

Howdy Friends!

Insomnia is a tricky thing. And it was about time we talked about it. When I can't sleep, it starts to feel like

everything is a copy of a copy of a copy.

everything is a copy of a copy of a copy.

As part of the process of working to feel better, I created a positive routine to replace the copy of a copy sleeplessness cycle I had fallen into. I outlined that routine in this post: Mxiety.com along with some research to explain why it seems to work so well.

Also in this episode, I got to answer lot's of audience questions this time around too, including:

  • What's the best temperature to fall asleep in?
  • Does depression cause insomnia or does insomnia cause depression?
  • What to do if you lose a night of sleep?

As I mentioned, I am not perfect and can't always follow this exactly as I outlined. Sometimes, I break my own rules, while at other times, I am too stressed or depressed and nothing seems to work. All in all, I hope you find this helps. If not, let me know in the comments below about what seems to help you more!

Maybe, next episode I can answer yours! Send me questions and suggestions here
Another piece of news, I am now on Patreon. So if you are not very into Twitch but wanted to offer some support, head on over there to do so and get some sweet rewards, like being part of movie night and podcast only versions of these episodes.
